How to reset a forgoten administrator password

Forgetting the administrator password for your PC is one of the worse things that can happen to you. Recovering passwords are not that easy. You can always look for third party software solution but most of the time they are not for free. In this article I'm going to explain how you can reset your administrator password in case if you forget it. This trick will works on Windows XP. To do this you'll need a bootable windows XP CD.

  • Change the BIOS settings on your PC to allow it to boot from a CD.

  • Put your bootable windows XP CD in to the CD Rom and once you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message press any key on the keyboard.

  • Press Enter on Welcome screen and hit F8 key to license agreement screen.

  • Setup will display your existing Windows operating system and you need to press R key to start the repair process.

  • Setup will copy some files and restart your computer. When it is rebooting do not response to the "Press any key to boot from CD" message.

  • It will continue the setup and look for the progress bar on bottom left hand corner. Once you see "Installing devices" in there press Shift+F10

  • It will open up the command prompt and you need to type the following command in there and press enter key to continue. NUSRMGR.CPL

  • It will open up the user accounts window on your control panel and from there you can simply select the administrator account or any other user account and can press Reset Password button.

  • Once you finished resetting the password you can type exit on the command prompt to get rid of it.

  • Continue the setup until it finishes and that will save your password changes to the system.

Note:- All your programs and Data will be safe because we just did a repair on the operating system.
